Summary:
One of the earliest Federation vessels, it was possibly the first vessel to operate under the
aegis of the United Federation of Planets. The Daedalus Class was a commonly used design in the early days of Starfleet in the 22nd century. They were the first for a lot of things common in
Federation vessels, the primary/secondary hull, and outboard warp nacelles for example. The
ships were small, slow and poorly armed. Also, she was one of only two classes to support a
spherical hull, the second of which would be produced in the late 24th century as the
Olympic Class. The Daedalus Class was retired in 2196.
