Summary:
The Constellation-class starships are older Federation vessels from the mid-24th century. The Constellation class is a starship type with four warp nacelles for long term exploration that was first commissioned around 2280. They may have been the first to feature four warp nacelles that would regulate warp power, and at high speeds decrease the chance of a burnout. Warp nacelles and several components of the saucer section are identical to the Constitution and Miranda Classes. Their main objective is deep-space exploration and scientific research missions. They are not well-suited for battle, however the famous Picard Maneuver was first used by Captain Jean-Luc Picard while commanding the Stargazer in an attack by a Ferengi D'Kora-class ship. The navigational deflector array is built into the center of the forward hull, and shuttlebay, if it has one, is most likely in the rear between the four nacelles. Constellation class ships are outdated and seem to have been decommissioned before 2370. The Constellation-class was retired, and (maybe) replaced by the Cheyenne Class, another starship with four nacelles and a similar design to this class.
